EXPLORE THE AREA

Here is a popular day trip idea: (Rainy or sunny.)

Before you start your journey:

1. Check in at www.facebook.com/wildinfo - and like us while you there!
2. Make sure your camera battery is charged and you have free memory space.
3. Make sure you have some water or cold drinks for the trip.
4. Adhere to the road rules and look out for cyclists and pedestrians.
5. Do NOT drink and drive.
6. At no stage leave any valuable items (wallets, cellphones, ID’s, Passports or cameras unattended in your vehicle)

Make use of the opportunity to take a drive on the Seven Passes Road towards Knysna. This road takes you through one of the few remaining natural mountain forests in the world.
En-route to Knysna you will be treated with breathtaking views and you will experience at least 10 river crossings (bridges) between George and Knysna. Keep an eye open for Monkeys, Baboons, Bushbuck, Loeries, and if you one of the fortunate few, you might spot a Leopard. Make sure to stop at Map of Africa on the way, and visit the Woodville Big Tree, where you can enjoy a 20min forest walk.

Stop for refreshments “Totties Farm Kitchen” in Rheenendal. From Knysna, make use of the N2 to return to Wilderness. You will pass Groenvlei Lake on your left hand side just before you reach Sedgefield. Groenvlei is the only freshwater lake in our area,. Carry on for another 8km, and you will see a windmill on your left hand side, with a sign attached to it “Oysters-R-Us” (open from 12pm). DO NOT PASS! Turn in, and visit Natasha and Natalie, where you will be treated with oysters in a way that you never tasted oysters before.

When you can get yourself to leave from there, get back on the N2, and carry on for 200m, then, turn right into Timberlake Village. There you will find the most amazing village, with dried fruits, nuts, wines, mohair products, a restaurant, coffee shop, oyster bar and many more.

A different approach for a day trip would be to head towards Oudtshoorn, and spend the time at The Cango Wildlife Ranch, where you will be able to interact with a variety of animals. For an adrenalin rush you should go and enjoy crocodile cage diving. The Cango Wildlife Ranch offers something for the whole family. There is a kids-zone, two restaurants, curios, and they are wheel chair friendly.
Also in Oudtshoorn, you can go for a tour of the world famous Cango Caves, or even enjoy an ostrich ride at Highgate Ostrich Show Farm, where you can also enjoy a scrumptious meal.

Ending off the day with a cocktail at Cocomo Restaurant in Wilderness or watching the dolphins play in the surf while having a sundowner at Views Restaurant, or witnessing a breathtaking sunset from the deck at Salinas Beach Restaurant seems like just the perfect plan.
